Intro / My Philosophy

Hello, and thank you for your interest. I believe that all people have worth and the potential to cultivate a life they are content with.

My approach to therapy is based on the view that much of our suffering stems unhelpful ways of thinking about ourself, others, and life in general. Through critically examining how we think, we can replace unhelpful ways of thinking with rational and helpful ways of thinking—leading to healthier emotions and behavior. We will also examine how you respond to thoughts, emotions, and urges, and introduce strategies to reduce problematic responses. In therapy, we will explore this cognitive approach to therapy and other evidence-based approaches. I also utilize existential or philosophical therapy, where we explore and clarify your beliefs, values, and any potential sources of meaning or purpose. In this existential approach we work to help you live more authentically — that is, more in line with your beliefs and values. I believe that when we have a sense of meaning and purpose we are better suited to handle all the challenges we are likely to face in life.

If you are apprehensive about starting therapy, rest assured that my aim is to provide a confidential and non-judgmental space where you will feel comfortable and be in control of the direction your therapy takes.

I specialize in addressing men’s issues; however, I am passionate about working with clients of all genders and identities. My qualifications allow me to assist with a wide range of mental health issues, substance use problems, career-related concerns, and distress related to cultural, existential or philosophical issues.

If you are turned off by traditional approaches to counseling, or what you think counseling typically looks like, you might prefer my practical, present-focused, solution-focused, and often intellectually engaging approach. I am also flexible and open to accommodating those who prefer other approaches to therapy.
